Quick Chat with Trevor Gnesin from Jorg Gray

Trevor Gnesin gave us a few minutes to answer some questions we had about Jorg Gray.  As the President of Jorg Gray he'll offer some very interesting views into the past, present a future of Jorg Gray.

Give us a little background to Jorg Gray.  How was Jorg Gray started?

Trevor: Jorg Gray started out as a specialty private label and gained international recognition when watch aficionados recognized then-Senator Barack Obama wearing the JG6500. From there, the brand really took off and we launched a public collection starting in 2009. Now we have full men’s dress, casual and ladies’ lines at retailers around the world. It’s been a great success!

RWR: With a history of producing OEM watches for private brands what was the inspiration to jump into your own brand?

Trevor: The demand for high quality watches at a reasonable price was evident after the immense success of the JG6500. The connection people immediately had to the JG6500 and the Jorg Gray brand was astounding and we ran with it. With a passion for chronology already engrained in our employees and a desire to expand our brand, we began the rigorous process of designing the best possible timepieces that would expand our line.

RWR: Your line contains mostly quartz, why is this movement the preference of the line?

We’ve stuck with quartz as we’ve found the movements - our timepieces contain both high-precision Miyota and Swiss movements - offer the durability and value we want to provide. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t introduce automatic models in the future.

RWR: A unique aspect to Jorg Gray is its use of bold colors fused with classic designs.  What inspires this fusion of colors?

Trevor: Jorg Gray strives to provide a timeless look in every series we issue. We’re not interested in fads or flash trends, rather making striking models that stand out yet have long-lasting appeal. That said, they don’t need to be entirely conventional either; the colorful accents are a way to turn a timeless design into a conversation piece on your wrist. They’re meant to attract attention and make a statement in a sophisticated manner, while still offering a model that can function as an amazing day-to-day timepiece.

RWR: A big standout feature to every Jorg Gray watch is the use of quality bands with an extremely soft interior.  Why is band quality so important?

Trevor: We pride ourselves on being able to offer quality materials at all price points. While providing stylish models, we also pay close attention to how the materials work together, their longevity and how they feel on the consumer.Who wants to wear an uncomfortable watch?

RWR: What are some of your favorite watch styles or models through watch history?

Trevor: It is always interesting to contemplate the watches of men who have reached the pinnacle of success choose to place on their wrist. President John F. Kennedy wore some great watches including an Omega Speedmaster as well as a Rolex Day-Date President. A stainless steel Breitling Aerospace was frequently seen on the wrist of Ariel Sharon, the former Prime Minister of Israel.

RWR: Give us some background into the Jorg Gray JG-6500 the President Obama wears.  How long has he been wearing it?  Who gave it to him?

Trevor: President Obama received the JG6500 Chronograph as a gift in 2007 for his 46th birthday from his Secret Service detail. He has been photographed wearing the timepiece on such historic occasions like his Presidential Election Victory Speech, his Inauguration and his acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s his regular, every-day timepiece. In fact, I just saw a picture of him with the Chinese President this week and there it was!

RWR: If you could summarize Jorg Gray into three words, what would they be?

Trevor: Timeless; Incredible value

RWR: What's next for Jorg Gray?

Trevor:  Our strongest pieces in the current men’s collection stand out with their level of detail, and as you mentioned before, mix of colors and textures. We’re going to continue creating robust models like these to fit a range of styles and occasions, and consumers can expect an extended line later in 2011. We’ll also be looking into expanding our ladies’ timepieces.

Well it looks like we have some interesting pieces to look forward to from Jorg Gray later this year.  Thanks to Trevor Gnesin for taking some time out to speak with us.  We look forward to testing out more from Jorg Gray very soon.
